I believe everyone should be given a fair chance to learn. When I say fair chance, I do not mean an equal chance. Clearly, different individuals learn differently. My experience has been, that given a fair chance, virtually any willing student can succeed. One difficulty educators experience, and I believe many unknowningly, are students who confidently indicate they have grasped the learning objective, when in fact their confidence is a facade. Very often, the students who seem to be behind are those truly attempting to understand the objective. Too often those students do not speak up and seem to be in the minority but in reality make up the majority. This is why indisputable assessment is a must. The type of assessment I speak of exposes both the falsely confident and those attempting to "fly under the radar".
